MEET THE "GLOUCESTER WELCOMES REFUGEES" TEAM

Additional Support

We are a brand new team made up of several fantastic individuals who each bring experience, enthusiasm and excitement to every step of this impressive journey that we are on together.

Stanka

Chair

Hi, my name is Stanka

I’ve been passionate about supporting refugees for some time now. Couple of years ago, I spent 5 weeks volunteering in Costa Rica teaching English in a refugee camp. Since then, I have been looking for opportunities on how to support refugees in different settings. When I heard about Community sponsorship scheme and the opportunities it gives to ordinary people like me to be able to make a difference, I knew immediately that this was the perfect opportunity for me to contribute to changing somebody’s life for better.

Margot

Communication Joint Lead

Hi, my name's Margot. My fundraising efforts have been generally school and local community related in the past. I am very happy to be involved with our community sponsorship group and look forward to the challenges that this will bring - both in relation to fundraising and with the aim as a whole!

My background includes some ESOL experience from living abroad and, from personal experience, I believe that I have a good understanding of the issues for people settling in the UK from aboard.

Carol

Joint Treasurer

Hello, I'm Carol! Having signed up for some voluntary work during the recent pandemic and working alongside a group of like-minded people, I am very excited about this project and look forward to working with the rest of the team.  I have undertaken the role of Treasurer before with other voluntary organisations and so have some experience of the requirements and the importance of accurate record keeping. We have a lot of work to do but I am sure, as a team, we will rise to the challenge and reach our goal.

Drew

Fundraising Lead

Hi I'm Drew, Currently I work at Gloucestershire College helping young people with special educational needs. I’m looking forward to helping to fund raise and lead on safeguarding whilst being a part of this group.

I’m passionate about helping people achieve their full potential and I can’t wait to welcome and settle a family in Gloucester.

Cameron

Hi my name's Cameron, I've always enjoyed partaking in fundraising opportunities and can't wait to help 'Gloucester Welcomes Refugees' through different communication avenues.

My most recent charitable experience was when I took part and fought in a Mixed Martial Arts event where I helped in raising over £4,000 for Cancer Research.

Lauren

Joint Treasurer

Hi I’m Lauren. I am normally one to take part in fundraising events rather than being the one to organise them so thoroughly looking forward to being a part of this group to be able to take on this new challenge and ultimately help resettle a refugee family .

My most recent fundraising experience was when I took part in a netball tournament to raise money for a local charity.
